jay dockins’ july 2013 rock of israel newsletter

Shalom Haverim! (Hello Friends!)DSCF0362

Summer activities have picked up and are in full swing! We did a lot of traveling in June! I was on the road for 16 of June’s 30 days! During June I represented Rock of Israel Ministries at two ministers’ conferences, did a Passover demonstration, preached in two services and waded in the Gulf of Mexico! (Hey, you can’t work all of the time, you know!) Our travels took us to Oklahoma, through parts of Tennessee and Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and, of course, Arkansas!

On the first weekend of June I had the pleasure of attending the Campmeeting of the New Horizons Ministries of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. This meeting was held on their campground at Tiger Mountain in Oklahoma. I always enjoy the fellowship of these fellow believers and the opportunity to share the ministry of Rock of Israel with them! This weather at this year’s meeting was interesting. Thunderstorms and tornadoes, followed the next day by hot and humid weather, made it a memorable time! But seeing those whom I had befriended on earlier occasions and meeting new friends was the most memorable aspect of the weekend!

On June 2, we were privileged to return to a church which we had pastored over a decade ago to hold a service. At the gracious invitation of Pastor Clint Trentham, we presented a platform Passover teaching at Calvary Assembly of God, in Fort Smith, Arkansas! It was a joy to be in service with people who we had pastored previously and to teach them about what Jesus has done for us through the Passover presentation. It was a treat to be in service with some dear friends and to see how their children and grandchildren had grown! (We were also amazed at how little that any of we adults had aged!)

After less than a week at home, I packed up and traveled to the great state of Texas for services and the North Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God! Sunday morning found me in service at New Life Assembly of God in Ore City, Texas. Although the crowd that morning was small, the Spirit of God was there in a real way. Pastor James Smith was so kind to have me come and to give me plenty of time to present the message. The Lord really moved among us as we saw what His Word said about being filled with the Holy Spirit!

Immediately after the service, I departed Ore City to travel to Waxahachie, Texas to set up my booth for the District Council. As I was bringing in the second of three loads which make up the contents of my booth, I managed to lock my keys in my car- WHILE PARKED IN THE FIRE LANE! Although I cannot remember ever doing that in the past, I did a fine job of doing so that day! After an hour of lost set up time, I finally managed to get set up and ready for the remaining three days. I shared the ministry of Rock of Israel with ministers who were attending the event, renewed acquaintances with those that I had met before and made new friends as well!

Just three days after arriving home from Texas, Kim and I departed for vacation, albeit a working vacation! We traveled to the Foley/Gulf Shores, Alabama area, for a week of relaxation and ministry. We were the guests of Pastor Paul Wilde and the congregation of New Life in Christ Church in Foley! This dear pastor and church have a “Prophet’s Quarters” ministry which provides a house for ministers who would like to come and take a break to rest, relax and renew. The facilities and hospitality were tremendous and we truly enjoyed our time of refreshing! I had the opportunity to minister the Word during the Wednesday evening service of the church! It was a good service and the week was a blessed time for us, personally!

On Saturday, we left Alabama and headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where we had the joy of visiting with Pastor Jeff Stanfill and his family! We were also blessed to be in service with them the next morning at Covenant Church in Greenwell Springs! I spoke in the morning service and truly enjoyed the receptiveness and joy of this congregation! After the service, we had the opportunity to fellowship with the Stanfill family and further catch up on the over 30 years which had passed since we had known and work with Pastor Jeff at Youth Camps in Arkansas! We also got to know Jeff’s wife, Mary Ann, a little better! What a delightful joy it was to get to know her! After lunch, we departed and drove half way home. We spent the night in Monroe and journeyed home the next day, thankful for the vacation and the ministry which the Lord allowed us to have!

I was home for a five days before flying out to Washington D.C. for a Rock of Israel street ministry outreach. More about that next month!

Tisha B’Av
The Jewish day of mourning, Tisha B’Av (the ninth of the month of Av), is approaching. This year it will occur on July, 16th. It is the Jewish day of mourning, second only to Yom Kippur in its solemnity. Many tragic events are remembered on this day, all of which occurred on Tisha B’Av in the respective years.

1. Ten of the twelve spies sent by Moses into the Promised Land returned with a negative report about their ability to possess the land. Their lack of faith brought on the continuing sadness of this date. (Numbers 13, 14)
2. The First Temple was destroyed in 586 BCE (Before Common Era, a common term from archeology) and the Judeans were sent into exile on this date, one year later.
3. The Second Temple was destroyed in 70 CE (Common Era) as the Romans set it on fire.
4. The Romans crushed Bar Kokhba’s revolt and killed over 100,000 Jews in  132 CE.
5. The Romans, led by the commander, Turnus Rufus, plowed the site of the Temple in 133 CE.
6. The First Crusade, in which a total of 1.2 million Jews were killed, began on Tisha B’Av in 1096.
7. The Jews were expelled from England in 1290.
8. The Jews were expelled from France in 1306.
9. The Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492. Christopher Columbus, a clandestine Jew, delayed his journey which was scheduled to begin on the Ninth of Av and sailed a few days later!
10. In 1941, SS commander Heinrich Himmler formally received approval for “The Final Solution”.
11. In 1942, the deportation of the Jews from the ghetto in Warsaw to the extermination camp in Treblinka, Poland began.

As you can see and imagine, Tisha B’Av is a very tragic day in the history of the Jewish people. Many Jewish religious communities remember the Holocaust on this day each year. (I visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum while in Washington D.C., earlier this month. I will have more to say on this in my next newsletter.)

Due to the length of this month’s newsletter, I will forego the Jewish vocabulary term for this month. It will return next month!
