jay dockins’ october 2012 rock of israel newsletter

Shalom Haverim!

As hard as it is to believe, we are in the month of October! This year has flown by (don’t we say that every year?), and the year is quickly coming to an end! In just a few days, I will be traveling to the Cincinnati area for the annual Rock of Israel Staff Conference. And after that we will begin looking forward to the holidays of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Years! And, of course, there is a very vital and close election coming up on November 6th! Vote! Too many of our fellow citizens have given their lives for you to have the right for you to not express your opinion!

These coming weeks are some of my favorite times of the year! I enjoy the beautiful array of colors with which the Lord colors the trees, the cooler weather, the special treats which appear and even the harvest celebrations which are held at this time of year! It is almost a bit of a reprise before the hustle and bustle which comes at the end of the year! It is also a time at which I begin to reflect upon how faithful the God has been to me!

When we lived in a much more agrarian society, this time of year was a time to celebrate the harvest with which God had blessed the farmers. The work of the farmer throughout the year had been mainly done and the crops were gathered and “in the barn,” and the major work of the year had been done! What a wonderful time of year that this was!

But James 5:7, 8 speaks of the time before the harvest when the farmer was waiting for the harvest to mature! The crop was not quite ready to harvest, it still needed the latter rain to bring full maturity to the crop, and the farmer had need of patience! “…be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” NKJV

Just as the farmer needed patience for his crop to be ready for harvest (SOMETHING WHICH HE KNEW WAS GOING TO OCCUR), so we are to be patient until the coming of the Lord! IT IS GOING TO OCCUR!

The Holy Days on the Jewish calendar have just passed (refer back to last month’s newsletter). In the days leading up to them, I noticed a real awareness among believers of the soon coming of the Lord! I heard them talking about the Lord’s return! I saw several church signs which referred to it! It was quite in vogue to be speaking of the Coming of the Lord! And it still is! It is always appropriate to speak of His Coming for He is coming again! He promised that in His Word!

At Rock of Israel, we believe and proclaim the coming of the Lord! Our mission statement proclaims: “The Rock of Israel is dedicated to reaching the Jewish people with the Good News that their Messiah has come and will soon return!” Each week the Staff members of Rock of Israel write and submit an email which is then sent out to all who work in our ministry. One Staff member always closes his email with the sentence, “Preach your hearts out, Jesus is coming!”

I have written all of this to remind you that the Lord is coming and that His coming is drawing nigh! Even though we do not know exactly when He is coming, we do know that He is coming soon! Be patient and establish your hearts for His coming is at hand! Do not be discouraged and do not listen to those who would scoff and mock, Jesus is coming again! (As some teenagers that I know would put it, “Don’t make me go all 2 Peter 3 on you!” Look it up!)

Jesus is coming again! It is our Blessed Hope!

(As you probably noticed, this month’s newsletter is a little different from the norm. Next month will be more what you are used to and will include the Jewish Vocabulary section at the end! Until then, Shalom!)

I am currently scheduling services for 2013, including Passover Seders which we do mainly in the Spring! (Pastors, I do have a couple of dates left in November of this year, call for details!) I would be glad to coordinate a date for a service with your calendar. If you or your church would be interested in scheduling a service, contact me at your convenience for information and dates!
